 LET'S GET THIS PARTY STARTED!!!

1.  Listed as pages in the right-hand column  are 4 documents to help kick start things.
    A. 2014-15 Version of the "Tennis Anyone" piece that will explain our organized play schedule for the year with pertinent information relative to program leaders, etc.  This piece will also be available in the display box at the courts, and in the Activities office for new arrivals.  We will also attempt to have it included in the PC sign-in/Welcome packet.
    B.  Our  detailed court schedules  from last season is much the same as this year's- showing events and program coordinators, individual court schedules, and timelines for all regularly scheduled play.  This will be frequently updated, distributed via email, and displayed at the courts.  A new one will be posted soon.
    C.  An updated version of the 2014-15 Tennis Club Management Team from the copy sent out a few days ago -- with more changes to follow.
    D.  Our tentative Social Calendar.

2.  We are planning the official launch of the new season for MONDAY NOVEMBER 3.  According to Weather Bug, temperatures will moderate from the low to the high 70's with lows in the upper 40's to upper 50's next week.
    Social tennis moves to a 5 day schedule of 9:30 to 11:00 on courts 5 through 8.  Hank and his court coordinators will be announcing some minor revisions to play format which we are confident will "make Social even better".
    Mens Ladder League, Ladies Ladder League, and Mixed Ladder Leagues - could, and hopefully will get started next week. Signup sheets are posted on the south side of the bulletin board NOW.  Program coordinators Jim Weaver, Sandy Murray, and Mike Murray stand ready to get started as soon as a minimum of 12 names show up on each signup sheet.  This year we will conduct 2 Ladder League sessions.  The first will be from now until January 1, with the second starting around January 1 through the rest of our season.  Signup sheets for this first session NEED TO STAY ON THE BOARD so new arrivals can sign up and be folded into the play schedule for the next session.  PLEASE SIGN UP - DO NOT JUST WALK ON.  Recognize that it is very difficult to run a pure Ladder League in this first session due to constantly evolving roster.  Work with the coordinators and we can still have good competitive matches.  Also remember that in order to run an effective ladder program -- to the best of your ability,  plan on playing every week.  If you can't, please communicate with your coordinators.

3.  We are ready (immediately) to book seasonal reservations for those who wish to reserve a day and court for the whole season.  Organize your group, choose a spokesperson for the group, and call Jim Weaver to set those bookings for the season.  When the next update of the play schedule is circulated, your reserved court/courts and times will be included and we are preparing to list them on the white board at the courts as well.

4.  Additional information will be forthcoming as the coordinators of other organized play activities arrive, and finalize their plans for starting their regular schedules.

5.  I am having difficulty connecting with maintenance to get the new BAKKO Backboard installed.  But I'm confident we will get that done in the near future.

6.  Courts 1 through 4 repairs are nearing completion and the courts should be playable by the first of next week.

7.  Our first regular club meeting is scheduled for Saturday November 22nd.  More on that later. 

8.  We are hopeful that we can all get together at the courts for our first Happy Hour within the next 2 weeks.  We have some things we would like to review with all  of you, and the courts will be the best place to do it.

9.  We are also hopeful that we will have our first "Mixer Upper" tournament by the first of December.  This will be a Saturday afternoon event that will be fast paced, and will allow for a LOT of players (all skill levels - both genders) to participate.  At the same time we should be able complete the tournament in 3 hours +/-.

Greetings Tennis Players

We had 4 full courts at last Fridays Social tennis.  Players are showing up and are ready to play.  We hope to get plans set SOON for organized play activities to begin and will communicate more as soon as we can.  Today, I want to submit (as a reminder) the Tennis Club Management team and social calender as we left it in the spring when we all headed elsewhere.  The following charts will provide that information for you.  Please review the information to remind you of any activities you volunteered for at the end of last season.  If anything has changed, please talk to us (Glenn - 7325 - or Penny - 6621) as soon as possible.

                        2013-2014 PALM CREEK TENNIS CLUB SEASON IN REVIEW

  As the 2013-2014 tennis season draws to a close, we look back with many fond memories of great matches, exceptional social events and relationships, meaningful charitable fundraising functions, new and exciting tournament venues, and great membership building activity.  But we all are looking forward to more of the same for the 2014-2015 tennis season at the Palm Creek Tennis Center. 

  We kicked off our ORGANIZED ACTIVITIES in early November with our popular Social Tennis play at 9:30 every weekday morning – a great chance to catch up with old friends on summer activities – and a great way to dust some of the cobwebs off our tennis skills.  We kicked off the Men’s, ladies, and mixed Ladder Leagues as well.  As we got rolling, our Men’s Intermediate Round Robin, the 3.5 women’s advanced play, the Sunday Couples, night couples play,  Saturday advanced, and Saturday Round Robin all got going.  By the end of December we had around 10 foursomes with weekly court reservations booked for the season through our court reservation system in place.  

 

  As January arrived so did a large contingency of January arriving players.  Tennis lessons started for beginning level, intermediate level, and our experienced players.  Then, on January 18^th, we held our first annual open house at the courts and invited all who attended to have lunch on us at the courts, as well as observe players in matches, and we invited all interested parties to pick up a racquet and hit some balls off one of the ball machines, or have a session with our USTA certified trainer Mary Ellen Halm, or to take part in a pick-up game with other visitors or existing club members.  We signed up 16 new club members that day, and did a good job of introducing or re-introducing our great game to people who had never played before as well as to players who had not held a racquet in years.  Most importantly we were able to show what a great competitive AND social group the tennis club is, and we really enjoyed showing off our newly renovated 8 court complex.

  

 

     

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  On Friday January 30^th and Saturday the 31^st we held our first PALM CREEK SUPERBOWL OF TENNIS tournament – a team tennis tournament event with the culmination being a Pot Luck Banquet to honor all teams who participated, and of course the winning team was awarded their Superbowl Rings and Certificates.  In addition to these festivities, we tied our annual Cancer Fundraiser into the evening with our combination auction and raffle (all kinds of neat stuff) in to wrap up the weekend EVENT.  Thanks to the support of all the generous tennis club members, we were able to raise $950 that was pooled in with the overall Palm Creek Cancer Drive.  Friday January 30^th and Saturday the 31^st, 2015 are already set aside for the Superbowl of Tennis/Cancer Drive Fundraiser for next year…

And the Winners Are........

The annual Palm Creek Tennis Club Member Tournament was held February 14-16.  Awards were given at the Chili Supper following the Sunday matches.

The Tournament is Under Way

We couldn't have asked for better weather for the annual club member tournament!  Connie Emerson and her helpers had things organized and under way in bright sunshine on Valentine's Day starting at 9am with the men playing on 6 courts.  Mixed couples played at 11 and the ladies took to the courts at 1:00, with great playing all the way around.

Palm Creek Tennis Club Tournament

The club tennis tournament will be Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, February 14, 15, and 16.    This is a round robin tournament meaning teams will play the other three teams in each division.  That also means teams will play every day.  If persons have signed up for two events you will have to play twice in one day. Men will play every day at 9:00, Mixed will play every day at 11:00, and Women will play every day at 1:00.  There will be no other tennis on those three days except the tournament games until after 3:00.  We are looking forward to a good time on the courts.  Those not playing, please come out to cheer on those who are!    All tennis club members are invited to attend the chili dinner on Sunday, the 16th, in the San Tan room to celebrate the end of the tournament.

Winners Announced!

The Palm Creek Tennis Club "Super-Bowl-of-Tennis" was held Friday, January 31 and Saturday February 1.  Organized by Don Baggett and his wonderful team of helpers from Hot Springs Village, AR, we had six teams of eight players each participating.  Teams were named for the top teams in pro-football and competed in two brackets, the American Conference and the National Conference.  Our teams in the American Conference were the Panthers, captained by Larry Marik; Broncos, headed by Penny Mason; and Gar Wildeman's Patriots.  Representing the National Conference were Connie Emerson's Seahawks, Brian Yonge's Colts and the 49ers, captained by Bev Argo.  The teams battled not only formidable opponents, but heavy winds on Friday and cold temperatures on Saturday.  Hardy fans cheered on the teams on both days and were rewarded with some exciting matches.  The championship and consolation matches were held at the courts on Saturday afternoon, followed in the San Tan Room  by a happy hour, pot-luck buffet dinner and an auction and raffle to benefit Palm Creek's Cancer Awareness Event.  A grand time was had by all.

Club co-chairman Glen Carter welcomed those attending, passed out some awards and introduced event chairman, Don Baggett.
