Weekly Update - Sunday 12/12/2010

Hello all,

Its been a very busy week for the Palm Creek Tennis Club.
On Sunday, December 5th we had lots of fun on a warm 74 degree day at the Palm Creek Tennis Club’s Sunday/Funday. Although our new solar powered atomic clock recorded a very warm 84 degrees!

We had so many players signed up to participate we could not all play at the same time. But, we made good use of our down time socializing and enjoying the free lunch of sloppy joes, chips and a big cookie. Char and I made sure no one walked away hungry with 4 crock pots full of sloppy joes.

When the whistle blew everyone knew what to do - either go on the court to play or, like some of our participants in this photo, get off the court and enjoy the free lunch and catch up with friends and neighbors. A good time was had by all!

On Thursday, December 9th we once again had some warm wonderful sunshine for our first Club Team Tennis Pre Season (December 9 – December 30) series. To work out all of the bugs we limited this “pre-season” to four teams. The “Aces” played the “Blue Fins” and the “Quackers” were up against the “Whiners.” As you can imagine from the team names it was lots of fun. In fact, a member of the pickleball club board stopped me to share how impressive it was to hear all the hollering and laughing coming from those “busy tennis courts.” After the fun filled play with most of the trash talking coming from the spouses we enjoyed the opportunity to share our “best point of the day” stories with each other while we sat together to enjoy the Thursday afternoon tennis club happy hour. If you want to find out more about Club Team Tennis come down to the tennis courts on Thursdays at 2pm and cheer on our teams! There are sign up sheets on bulletin board (see information board) so make sure you sign up for the January Club Team Tennis series to get in on all the fun. If you would rather be placed on a team, call Mark or Kate (520-876-6459) and we will do our best.

The first order for the tennis club shirts has been submitted and we expect them to be delivered soon. I have a second order ready to go but I will not sent it in until all of the money has been collected. If you would like to order a shirt with this order please let me know (520-876-6459) your what size and what color shirt (white or dark red) you would like and get the money to me as soon as possible. After this December order is placed, the next order will not be placed until after the January Social on January 23rd.

Which reminds me, please save the date, January 23rd at 4pm in the San Tan Room for the famously wonderful Palm Creek Tennis Club Soup and Salad pot luck. More information and a sign up sheet will be on the bulletin board in early January.

Ladies League is scheduled to begin on January 3rd and run through to March 28th. Connie Emerson and Bonita (Bonnie) Morgan have once again volunteered to serve as “captains.” I posted the sign up sheet on the tennis club bulletin board today. There are only 20 slots available so get down to the bulletin board to sign up or, if you have not yet arrived at the park, call me at 520-876-6459 and I will go down to the bulletin board and sign you up. We will also need plenty of subs available to make sure we always have all of the courts full so if you don’t want to commit to playing every week, please sign up as a sub.

Jim Weaver reports that the Men’s League had all the courts full for the December session of Men’s League and we are expecting to once again fill the courts for the January Men’s League scheduled to start on January 4th through January 25th. Once again, the sign up sheet for the January Session of Men’s League was posted on the Bulletin Board today. Please make sure you go down to sign up or, if you have not yet arrived, call me at 520-876-6459 and I will go down and sign up for you. Just let me know if you want to commit to playing for the full month or if you would like to serve as a sub.

The order has been placed for 3 new windscreens to replace our damaged windscreens as well as for 2 new squeegie units and 4 new squeegie replacement rollers. Walt Krahl has put some additional shelving in the tennis building and he and Glenn Arnold worked hard to get everything cleaned up. Walt and Glenn will soon be hanging one of the windscreens to pilot the process of using caribeeners in place of the plastic clips. Our court maintenace team has been hard at work and everything looks great!

We are in need of volunteers to captain Couples Tennis on Sundays for December and January. If you would be willing to captain this organized play please let me know (520-876-6459). Gwen and Wayne Black will take over when they get back to the park.

Looking forward to seeing you on the courts...Kate Perrie (President - Palm Creek Tennis Club)
