Happy
New Year To All
We
hope 2015 proves to be a Great Year for all. Our Tennis Club numbers have taken
a growth spurt in the last week with all the January arrivals. To that end, we
have several updates to communicate.
1.
Let's all turn out for the Wednesday Happy
Hour this week to welcome and meet and greet the new arrivals. In addition, as
she mentioned earlier, Sandy Murray is anxious to get volunteers in place to
help with the Tennis Club Open House scheduled for Saturday
January 17 from 11:00 to 2:00.
In addition to that business, Helen Arnold will be set up for new arrivals (and
anyone else who hasn't already) to pay their annual dues -- still $20 per
couple, $15 per individual member. HAPPY HOUR - 4:00 to
?.
2.
As we are all aware, Sun has their second Welcome Home party scheduled for this
coming Saturday
Jan 10th.
The Tennis Club will be manning a booth there for further collection of dues,
and to meet and greet interested potential new tennis players. Helen will be
there, and Sandy will also be in attendance to distribute flyers describing our
Tennis Program, and inviting folks to join us for lunch at our Saturday
Jan 17th Open
House. We could use some help relieving them in the booth, so they can also
enjoy some lunch. Please talk to them.
3.
As we start our "second season", and make our membership recruiting drive, and
with the return to Palm Creek of Mary Ellen Halm, we are ready to start the
Beginner and Intermediate lessons with Mary Ellen and Larry Marik TOMORROW, January
5th.
We will start the Advanced lesson program with Mark Costello the
following Monday - Jan
12th.
All lessons will be in the 1:00
to 2:30 time
slot utilizing courts 5 through 8 for lessons, and court 4 will provide an
opportunity to incorporate the new backboard in the lesson programs in that same
time slot. Hank will have ball machines set up on other available courts for
all to use in that same time period. Technically courts are reserved
until 3:00 for
these groups -- as needed.
4.
As mentioned earlier, our Open House is scheduled for Saturday the
17th. Our goals are:
~~To
meet and greet potential new players to our club.
~~Reintroduce
or introduce all who might be interested in being a part of our club to the
game.
~~Put
our best foot forward on how easy it is to get started.
~~Make
sure they get information about the variety of play options we offer - starting
with Social Tennis.
~~Get
them on the court with some of our players if they are ready, or with the ball
machines or backboard.
~~Share
lunch with them and make sure they realize what a great social group we
are.
We
need as many of our current members there as possible to accomplish these
goals. Please plan on being there in numbers from 11:00
to 2:00 to
help communicate our goals. Be ready to step up as needed.
5.
Our Superbowl of Tennis II is coming up on January
30th and 31st.
This tournament is part of our Cancer Awareness fund raising campaign in support
of the overall Palm Creek drive. All who participated last year had a great
time. We will need 48 players (plus a few sub/reserve players) to sign up to
make up the 6 teams who will compete. There is a $10 fee for participation with
100% of those dollars going into our Cancer drive kitty. Following the
championship round of play Saturday afternoon Jan
31st,
we will again have a dinner - this year with a new twist we are sure you will
enjoy, and recognition awards for winning Superbowl teams, with the grand finale
being our fundraiser auction conducted by our entertaining and award winning
auctioneer Nancy Restum. Once again this year the January arriving group from
Hot Springs is stepping up to the plate to pull this event together. Thanks
to Harlen
and Janice Jensen who
will be running the show this year.
