Weekly Update - Sunday 11/27/2010

Our next social was scheduled for Sunday, December 5th. As this is only two weeks from our last social there is not much need for another meeting. Therefore, we will not have a social/meeting in the Ballroom as scheduled. Instead, we are going to have a Sunday/Funday tennis event on Sunday, December 5th starting at 12:30 at the tennis courts. Every player will be assigned a number and at the beginning of every 20 minute set the teams for each court will be announced. In order to participate you must sign up by Friday, December 3rd. And, as the saying goes “there is no such thing as a free lunch.” That is unless you belong to the Palm Creek Tennis Club! We will have a free lunch at this event for all members (but we are requesting that you bring your own drink). I don’t want to have to turn anyone away so PLEASE sign up if you are planning to attend! I need to know exact number of players in order to have the correct court assignments and I don’t want to run out of food! When you sign up let me know if you are 1) tennis & lunch - participating in the tennis or if you are 2) lunch - just coming to cheer on the players and enjoy the lunch. You can reply to this email or there will be a sign-up sheet posted on the bulletin board by the court. It s going to be a fun event that you don’t want to miss!!!


Walt Krahl and Glenn Arnold have been very busy cleaning the courts and the tennis building. Walt and Glenn cleaned out the used balls from the ball machines as well as the tennis lesson carts. As one of the ball machines would get clogged by the Dunlop balls we have eliminated dunlop balls from our ball machines. There is a “step to open” can ouside of court 2 for your used balls. With the clean out of the old balls we have lots of space for your used balls!

Men’s league for the month of December is starting on December 7th through December 28th. Jim already has three courts signed up! So, if you want to join in stop by the bulletin board to sign up or give Jim Weaver a call at 7284 (520-876-7284)

Club Team Tennis preseason session is scheduled to start on Thursday December 9th (2-4pm) for 4 weeks. If you don’t have a team and would like to participate, please sign up on the Club Team Tennis section of the bulletin board or contact me by replying to this email or calling me at 6459 ( 520-876-6459) and we will find you a team.

Ladies Intermediate will meet every Wednesday 2:00-4:00 starting on December 8th. Sieny (6687) is the court captain for this group and she would like for you to sign up if you would like to play but you don’t have to commit to play every week. She will rotate players in to make sure everyone who shows up gets to play. Please come out on Wednesdays and enjoy some fun tennis with a great group of Palm Creek ladies.

Don’t forget to sign up for Round Robin Mixed Doubles on Saturdays at 9:30 AM. Glenn, is working hard to make sure you get in some great matches in your rotations. If you have any questions give Glenn a call at 6877 (520-876-6877).

We all want to thank Jean McConnell for her hard work to make our Cancer Awareness Tennis Tournament such a success. Mary Anderson was a great help for Jean. Thanks also to Doug Anderson and Marilyn Howisey for helping to organize the tournament. And of course, Mr. McConnel had a hand in it.

2010 Palm Creek Tennis Tournament - Awards

The 2010 Palm Creek Tennis Tournament is now a thing of the past. Everyone that played enjoyed some fun matches. With court 6 set up as a spectator court there was lots of room to watch the matches. The absolute grand finale was the Men's Doubles match with Ken Civiello and Jack Hardy giving it their all against Skip Nirenberg and Walt Krahl.

Tennis Tournament - Thursday schedule moved to Friday

Due to the rain, all matches scheduled for today, Thursday, will be moved to Friday. The scheduled times and courts will be exactly the same as the Thursday schedule. Minutes from January 26 meeting

Palm Creek Tennis Club
General Meeting
Tuesday, January 26, 2010


The meeting was called to order by President Charlotte Eicher at 4:15pm at the tennis pavilion. Charlotte introduced officers, Walt Krahl, Vice-President; Mary Williams, Secretary; and Helen Arnold, Membership chairman.

The minutes from the last general meeting (December 9, 2009) were accepted as posted. Charlotte read a summary of the treasurer’s report sent in by Carolyn Stone. Expenses lately have included money for tennis club brochures, a new ball basket for use during lessons, and a new “sandwich board” to use at the courts to publicize activities.

The Cancer Awareness Tennis Tournament will be held February 5, 6, and 7. With women playing on Friday, men on Saturday and Mixed doubles on Sunday. There are still openings for players in all categories.

The Palm Creek Tennis Club “in-house” tournament is this coming Thursday through Saturday. Seeding events were completed today.

The next tennis social will be on February 21. It will be a brunch. Watch for details to b posted on the bulletin board and on-line.

The rest of the meeting was a discussion of current court usage and the possible consequences of that. The courts are not being utilized as much as they could be by our current approximately 128 active members. Attending members expressed various ideas and suggestions to increase usage. Those ideas included posting individual play requests on the bulletin board, adding an afternoon “social tennis” and a 2.0-3.0 drop-in tennis time to the schedule. All of the ideas and suggestions will be taken under advisement by the officers,
